The details
Triple priming matters: a thinly primed canvas drinks your first layer and dulls it. These take three coats of acid-free gesso, sanded between passes.
Stretched over kiln-dried pine bars with proper corner keys, so a slack canvas can be re-tensioned rather than discarded.
Back-stapled, so the edges are clean enough to leave unframed.

Care & keeping
If the surface goes slack in humid weather, tap the corner keys gently outward — a few millimetres is usually enough.
